ABVP activists ransack school demanding closure

Anna Hazare
Dumka (Jharkhand), Aug 18: Activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad allegedly ransacked a school in Dumka, demanding that the school be closed for a day today (Aug 19) to express solidarity with Anna Hazare's anti-corruption movement.

"Some ABVP activists toppled benches of a class room while they demanded for closure of the school," according to a press release issued here by the Principal of St. Joseph School, Father Piyush Marandi.

Dumka Superintendent of Police Hemant Toppo said any possible role of anti-social elements in the ransacking would be probed. An FIR would be filed in this connection, he said.

Denying the allegations of ransacking, ABVP's national secretary Bimal Marandi said some activists had only requested the school management to close for today along with other schools in support of Anna Hazare's movement against corruption.
