Ralegan Siddhi, Aug 16: After news of Gandhian Anna Hazare's early morning detention and eventual arrest by the Delhi police emerged, Anna's hometown in Ralegan Siddhi in Ahmednagar district is seeing a flurry of activities.

The villagers were seen protesting against the arrest and came out with their cattle onto the roads with the intention of blocking the traffic.

All vehicular traffic was disrupted and the villagers took to the streets for the unlawful detention of Anna Hazare from his home ahead of his proposed fast at JP Park on Aug 16.

Hazare's close associate Datta Awari declared, "The entire village is observing a bandh today." Awari added that youth and school students will join in the protest.

Bheema Pote, a member of the Ralegan Siddhi gram panchayat has been quoted as saying that by arresting Anna Hazare the government has acted against the constitutional rights of citizens. Pote also stated that the villagers will fast today as a show of solidarity to Anna's cause.

Hazare's supporters in Ralegan Siddhi are also expected to hold a peaceful demonstration in front of the District Collectorate in Ahmednagar.
