Shahid Balwa redefines CBI as Central Bureau of Imagination

New Delhi, Aug 12: India's premier investigative agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now got a whole new definition, thanks to 2G scam accused and Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa who has called the CBI, the "Central Bureau of Imagination" in court. He stated that the CBI was unaware of the guidelines on eligibility of firms for receiving licenses.

Mounting his tirade against the CBI, Balwa said, "CBI is going on a wild goose chase. The only question is whether we (Swan Telecom) were eligible or not and this question is based on clause 8 of the Unified Access Service Licence (UASL) guidelines. Everything else other than this that we were favoured for Delhi circle is all bogus ... CBI should be called the Central Bureau of Imagination for such an imaginary probe." He stated these facts to Special CBI Judge O P Saini.

Balwa also added that there were major faults in the charge sheet filed by the CBI and commented that it did not make Ajay Chandra, brother of Sanjay Chandra, Unitech Managing Director an accused in the case. Ajay had claimed that it was Sanjay who was handling the telecom business. Sanjay is a co-accused in the case.

Balwa strongly stated in his fiery rhetoric, "I gave a similar statement that I am only responsible for the telecom business. Even then, they put Vinod Goenka (another Director of Swan Telecom) in jail."

He added, "Same for Dayaluammal (DMK supremo Karunanidhi's wife) who holds 60 percent shares in Kalaignar TV (accused of receiving alleged bribe of Rs 200 crore from DB Realty). She has not been prosecuted and rightly so. Why is it that CBI thought all my relatives and friends and brother should be in jail?."
