Noida farmers ready to send Formula One race out of track

Noida, Aug 11: Noida farmers started an agitation over land acquisition controversy, as they (farmers) vowed to "dismantle" Jaypee's Formula One race.

Under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union, more than 300 Noida farmers on Wednesday, Aug 10 gathered at Kanarsi village and held a mahapanchayat.

The farmers' row began as they expressed their dissatisfaction over the acquisition process of land which have been grabbed for preparing track for the upcoming Jaypee's Formula One race in India.

Demanding reservation in educational institutions, more money and setting up of more industries to generate employment in the area, the farmers sent a letter to the Yamuna Expressway Authority.

Threatening the authorities, the agitated farmers said, "We are warning you that if our demands are taken casually, we will be forced to launch an agitation."

Opposing the authorities' decision to hand over the land to builders, the farmers also demanded to use the land for industrial purposes.

The land "should be allotted for industrial purposes so that our children may have employment in the future," the farmers demanded in the letter to the Yamuna Expressway Authority.
