Centre not responding to TN demand for spl assistance: Jaya

Chennai, Aug 9: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha today (Aug 9) charged the Centre with not responding to the state government's demand for special assistance of Rs one lakh crore.

Intervening during a discussion on the budget in the Assembly, she said that despite repeated attempts, the Centre had not responded so far on Tamil Nadu''s demand.

"There has been no reply to our demands," Jayalalitha said.

Jayalalitha had made a plea to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during her visit to New Delhi in June seeking special package for the state.

The list of her demands included assistance for implementation of the Mono Rail Project in Chennai costing Rs 16,650 crore and an amount of Rs 10,200 crore over the next five years to provide laptops to students studying in government and government aided schools.

She had also sought special package for modernising fishing sector and early completion of Koodangulam Atomic Power Station and Neyveli Thermal Station II.
