Captain, Chief Engineer of MV Rak arrested, released on bail
Reports state that they have released on a bail of Rs 25,000 each.
It can be recalled that MV Rak sank off the coast of Mumbai on Aug 4 with 60,000 metric tonnes of coal on board. The cargo ship which was on its way from Indonesia's Tutung to Dahej in Gujarat had a 30-member crew of Indonesian, Romanian and Jordanian nationalities.
Before the ship sunk on Aug 4, the crew members were rescued by the Indian defence forces.
On Aug 5, an FIR was registered against the owner, the captain and crew members of the ship and a probe was ordered into the incident.
Deputy Police Commissioner (Port Zone) Tanaji Ghadge was quoted as saying, "An FIR has been registered against the owner, captain and crew members under IPC section 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others)."
