Strike hits banking services in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 5: Banking operations in Kerala were affected today as more than 25,000 employees joined the nationwide strike call by United Forum of Bank Unions in protest against banking sector reforms.

National Confederation of Bank Employees sources said that co-operative banks and new-generation private banks also did not operate today. The bank strike in Kerala was total, they claimed.

Among their demands are that the Centre stop its move to consolidate and merge public sector banks, give up practice of outsourcing, re-instate the Banking Service Recuritment Board and also refuse licence to Corporates for starting banking services.
