How Facebook, Twitter, Google+ gain market in India?

Mumbai, Aug 5: The latest market research report revealed that India may become the biggest market after United States for Facebook, the world's largest social networking site.

According to Nielsen Co. report, the popularity and wide acceptance of cheaper internet-ready phones will help India to climb to the second most biggest market for Facebook in 2012.

As of now, India stands third behind US and Indonesia in Facebook penetration. US has more than 153 million Facebook users and there are 39.2 million users in Indonesia. But, the number of Facebook active users in India jumped to 32 million with an 85 percent growth rate in 2011.

Meanwhile, the recently announced social networking site Google Plus is also gaining its ground in India. According to latest reports, India stands second behind US in Google+ user base. The private research firm ComScore said in Jul third week that Google Plus had 19.93 million unique visitors between Jun 29 and Jul 19 period. Of the 19.93 million visitors, 5.31 million were from the US and 2.85 million from India. Now, Google+ users base has crossed 25 million within one month after its announcement.

In Sep 2010, Facebook opened an office in Hyderabad to serve users, advertisers and developers in the country and around the world. Also, Facebook recently teamed-up with service providers in the country to offer free access to the platform.

The micro blogging site Twitter is also gaining more popularity among Indians. With Bollywood stars, business tycoons and political leaders plunging to the micro blogging world, Twitter became an important source of information and breaking news.

Similarly, the professional social network, LinkedIn, also gained popularity among young Indians. Now LinkedIn has more than 10 million members in India, making it the second largest market after US.
