Satyam case: Raju, six others file bail pleas

Hyderabad, Aug 2: Prime accused in the multi-crore accounting "fraud" in Satyam Computers and former company chairman B Ramalinga Raju and six others accused in the case on Monday, Aug 1 filed bail petitions in a local court.

As the trial in Satyam scam was not completed before the stipulated time of July 31, Raju and other accused moved the XXI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court today seeking bail and the matter will come up for hearing on Tuesday, Aug 2, a CBI official told PTI.

Earlier, cancelling Raju's bail in October last year, the Supreme Court directed the accused may file bail application only after July 31, 2011 if the trial in the case is not completed in the local court by then.

Raju, his brother and Satyam's former MD B Rama Raju, ex-Satyam CFO Vadlamani Srinivas, former employees -- G Ramakrishna, D Venkatpathi Raju and Ch Srisailam and former PWC auditor of Satyam Subramani Gopalakrishnan, who are under judicial custody in connection with the alleged Rs 14,000 crore Satyam scam, filed bail petitions, the official said.

Satyam''s then internal auditor V S Prabhakar Gupta's bail plea was today dismissed by Andhra Pradesh High Court which asked him to approach the trial court hearing the Satyam scam and he is likely to file the bail application, the CBI official said.

Talluri Srinivas, another PWC auditor, is already on bail while Raju's another brother Suryanarayana Raju is also out on anticipatory bail. Meanwhile, cross examination of CBI officers investigating the case continued today in the court.

Satyam's founder Ramalinga Raju and other accused are facing charges of criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery and falsification of accounts in connection with the accounting fraud in the IT firm.
