Speak Asia Scam: Mumbai cops question PR firm

Mumbai, Aug 1: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai police have questioned top officials of a Public Relation firm in connection with the Speak Asia multi-crore scam.

A media report alleged that the firm helped the online survey company Speak Asia to route out investors' money and to invest in foreign bank accounts.

"Two PR officials of the company hired by Speak Asia have been questioned. We are also trying to find who were involved, as it seems to be a much more bigger racket then it appears," said Rajvardhan, additional commissioner of police, EOW.

Earlier, Mumbai police arrested Speak Asia COO Tarak Vimlendu Bajpai and other portal technicians including Rajeev Manmohan Mehrotra, Shaikh Rais Latif and finance accountant Ravi Janakraj Khanna for allegedly duping over 12 lakh investors across India to the tune of Rs 1,300 crore. Later, a Court in Mumbai remanded the officials in police custody till Aug 4.

Police officials said that Speak Asia was conducting multi-marketing pyramid model, which promised exorbitant investment returns to the investors. Speak Asia's pyramid scheme involves paid subscribers filling up online consumer survey forms and luring more into its fold in return for commissions.
