Karnataka: Supreme Court bans, NO more mining in Bellary

Bangalore, Jul 29: The Supreme Court on Friday, Jul 29 banned all mining in Bellary, which is famous for mining in Karnataka.

The apex court banned mining in the region with immediate effect from Friday over environment pollution. Central Empowerment Committee stated in the court that the mining in Bellary has made serious damage to the environment around the region.

The court also sought details about how much of the ore mined from mines in Bellary is used for domestic purpose and for export.

The court also asked the environment ministry to table their replies within one week.
