16 killed, 10 missing in Ukraine mine blast

Ukraine mine blast victim rushed to hospital by rescue team
Moscow, Jul 29: At least 16 miners were killed and 10 others went missing after an explosion in a coal mine in the Lugansk region in eastern Ukraine early today (Jul 29), officials said.

The blast took place in the Sukhodolsk-Vostochnaya coalmine at Krasnodon in the Lugansk region when 28 miners were working in the shaft, Interfax reported quoting disaster management authorities of Ukraine.

The authorities said that the fate of 10 miners remains unknown. Two miners with serious burns were evacuated by the rescuers.

Officials did not provide details on the cause of the blast. Most of the country's mine disasters have been caused by build-ups of methane gas.
