New land acquisition bill finalised; norms divided

New Delhi, Jul 27: Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday, Jul 27 informed that the new land acquisition bill has been finalised.

The minister also informed that the new bill has been placed for consultation for one month. The ministry sources also claimed that norms for rural and urban land acquisition will differ from each other.

According to the new bill, compensation will be six times the registered sale price in rural areas. However, the compensation for people in urban region will be twice.

As per the new bill, government has to receive permission from 80 percent of the people of the area where land is to be acquired. The new land acquisition bill made the above mentioned rule mandatory.

The process, in which the lands will be acquired, will be transparent to all, the ministry sources informed while clarifying some other rules of the new finalised bill. The new Land acquisition bill is also compliant with all existing laws on tribal welfare.
