Facing opposition to same sex relation, girl attempts suicide

Meerut, Jul 26: A girl allegedly attempted suicide by jumping in front of a moving train here as her parents were opposed to her same-sex relationship with a classmate, police said today (Jul 26).

The B.Tech student, who attempted suicide by jumping in front of the train near Maliyana bridge, was critically injured and rushed to a local hospital, they said.

The girl said that she loved a classmate and wanted to marry her, they said, adding that due to opposition from her parents, she attempted suicide.

Both girls stay together in the college hostel. In the neighbouring Khekda village, Savita and Veeni had eloped from their home on July 22 and married in Gurgaon district of Haryana. The same-sex couple had sought protection against their relatives from a court in Gurgaon.
