Lesbian couple ties nuptial knot, faces threats

Manesar, Jul 25: A lesbian couple, very much fond of each other, took up the daring step to tie a nuptial knot in Manesar, New Delhi. But, as this bold act has been against their family wishes, now they are threatened of family's actions and are seeking protection from court.

The 20 and 25-year-old ran away from home after having known each other for 15 years. Their families have been livid since. "Our family members can take harsh steps against us. They even threatened to kill us. We were married on the 22nd and are now in court seeking protection," they said.

"After several murders of couples, we have enforced stricter laws for them. The road ahead is far from easy, but these couples aren't deterred" their Lawyer said. Their next hurdle is on Monday when their plea for protection comes up in court. "If they want to take any steps against us, they should not hesitate to do so," girls said.

In a dreadful incident in January, 2011 at Madhya Pradesh, Pooja and Bharati, a lesbian couple attempted suicide after their respective families did not allow them to marry each other. The girls hence decided to marry each other with a view that they jointly live throughout their lives. They consumed poison when denied consent for marriage by parents.
