2G: Chidambaram clarifies charges made by A Raja

Raja in front of Special CBI Court, OP Saini had alleged that the sale of the spectrum was done in front of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and accused the then finance Minister, P Chidambaram of approving the sale of spectrum allocation to DB Realty.
"No sale of spectrum by Unitech and Swan Telecom to foreign partners; they were inducted by issuing fresh shares by promoters," said Chidambaram.
"This was discussed in the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that foreign partners were inducted by issuing fresh shares and there was no sale of spectrum by Unitech or Swan Telecom," he added.
Chidambaram also said that the MOF only examined if Unitech and Swan were divesting or diluting shares through equity adding further that the MoF wanted to rediscover the entry fee, while DoT emphasised that it remain at 2001 rates.
Raja also said that he have done nothing wrong and only followed the policy of the NDA government, adding he had "implemented only what I have inherited."
He added, "If they had done no wrong, why am I being questioned? Let them deny that they have not done what I did. I was just following the 2003 Cabinet decision that is not to auction 2G spectrum. If I am following the law, I am not liable to be prosecuted. Infact, I should be rewarded."
Meanwhile, after Raja targeted the NDA, the BJP has decided to call a meeting to brief on the allegations.
