Crime
Varanasi, Jul 24: Two Italian nationals, including a woman was given life sentence by an Uttar Pradesh court on Jul 23 for allegedly killing their friends in Varanasi, said a lawyer.

28-year-old Francesco Montis was found dead in Feb 2010 in Chetganj, Varanasi at a hotel. His body was found in the hotel where the two accused were sharing a room with him.

Bruno and Boncompagni were awarded life sentence by the additional district judge and also a fine of Rs 25,000 was imposed on them.

"The victim's post-mortem revealed that the death was caused by asphyxia as a result of strangulation. Police arrested Boncompagni and Bruno suspecting their involvement in the killing," said Anil Singh, government counsel.

"During investigations it was revealed that the murder was a fallout of love triangle,"he added.

The police said that the Montis was in love with his woman friend Boncompagni but the lady was already in a relationship with Tommaso Bruno following which they killed the victim.

The three Italians had come on a tour to India and worked at a hotel in Central London.
