Tamil Nadu: Infant sold by father for Rs 40,000

Tiruneveli, Jul 23: A man was arrested by the police for selling his one-month-old infant to a businessman based in Mumbai for mere sum of Rs 40,000.

J Syed Yousuff was arrested by the police on Friday, Jul 22 after his wife lodged a complaint with the Village Administrative Office (VAO).

Yousuff who had recently lost his job at a tea shop, was unable to meet daily expenses to support his five member family.

The accused convinced his wife Fathima on selling their baby daughter for money on Jul 17 to meet expenses.

His wife later informed the VAO regarding Yousuff selling their daughter for money and spending the amount on alcohol.
