Be happy with what you have: Mamata

Kolkata, Jul 22: In a philosophical message to party workers against corruption, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Thursday, Jul 21 said she would have owned a few crore rupees now if she had just saved her salary in her over two decades as MP.

"I have been a member of Parliament for 23 to 24 years. If I had just saved the salary which I got as MP and properly availed of TA and DA, I would have owned a few crore rupees now," Banerjee, the West Bengal Chief Minister told a party rally here.

"But, I never had a such a wish. Whatever I have got I have given away," she said.

"What is the need for gold, diamonds and pearls? Am I going to eat it? It is entirely an illusion. It pains the mind to steal. Keep the head held high and live simply. It is more pleasurable. Be happy with what you have," Banerjee said.

"We are here today and gone tomorrow. Tomorrow if I die I will only have a shroud left," Banerjee who is known for her honesty and simple living said.

"Take a vow you will never resort to corruption or wrongdoing," she exhorted partymen.
