Bangalore lakes under threat, you can save them

Bangalore lake under threat
Bangalore, Jul 22: Lakes in Bangalore are under threat as it has been noticed that the city has been experiencing an alarming decrease in the number of lakes. The garden city had 937 lakes in 1937 but the number has decreased to 212 in 2010.

This is the prime time for the aam-admi to unite to save the lakes which are believed as the main source of water for Bangaloreans. According a report submitted by the World Health Organization (WHO), there will be only 78 liters of potable available per person per day in Bangalore against 150 liters required by 2020.

The ill-effects of urbanisation is clear from the decreasing states of the lakes. Bangaloreans have to raise their voice to save their future generation's lives.

However, BBMP has plunged into action to address the pathetic situation. An organisation called United Way Bangalore has organised a LAKE-A-THON on Sunday, Jul 31 at 7 am. The venue is - Kaikondanahalli Lake, on Sarjapura Road close to Total Mall, Bangalore.

The organisation urged all citizens to participate in the LAKE-A-THON to reaffirm - "we care for our LAKES and Environment." To register name, interested people can click here.
