Uma Bharti stages silent protest in Lucknow

Lucknow, Jul 22: BJP leader Uma Bharati today held a silent protest here against alleged atrocities on woman in Uttar Pradesh.

Talking to reporters before staging the dharna at Deen Dayal Upadhaya memorial park, Bharti said the scene in Uttar Pradesh is alarming as the government machinery led by a woman chief minister who herself belonged to a weaker section was "shielding the wrongdoers" and all sections in the state were feeling insecure.

The BJP leader said the focus of the Mayawati-let BSP government had been "fund collection and this has demoralised the official machinery."

Bharti said the silent protest is to give voice to those who have not been able to express themselves despite atrocities.
