Lawyers association against including judiciary in Lokpal

Madurai, Jul 21: Tamilnadu Advocates Association President S.Prabhakaran today on Wednesday, Jul 20 said lakhs of advocates would oppose tooth and nail any move to bring the Judiciary under the purview of the proposed Lokpal.

Talking to newsmen here, he said the judiciary would be destroyed if it was included in the Lokpal bill.

"Judiciary cannot be independent, fair, honest and fearless if it is brought under the purview of Lokpal bill. Such a move is against the Constitution, which should be amended if Judiciary is to be brought under Lokpal bill," he said.

He, however, said the lawyers were not against Lokpal Bill as such. He said the association was against pre-enrollment tests for BL degree holders. If there was any problem regarding the quality of education, it was for the Bar Council of India to set it right.
