Goondas Act slapped on DMK functionary

Tiruchirappalli, Jul 21: The City Police Commissioner today (Jul 21) ordered detention of a senior DMK functionary, under Goondas Act following "voluminous complaints" against him in alleged land grabbing, encroachment, and interference in civil disputes.

Kajamalai Vijay, the K K Nagar secretary of DMK, had surrendered before the police two days ago, but there were "complaints galore" against him when his case was studied, Commissioner Masanamuthu said.

Vijay is the second DMK functionery to be arrested under the Goondas Act in the district recently. ''Kudamuruti'' Sekar, believed to be a close associate of former DMK Minister K N Nehru, is already in prison for his alleged involvement in various crimes.
