Chennai: US, Clinton bet on India's future

Chennai, Jul 20: US secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday, Jul 20 addressed the students and VIPs gathered at the Anna Centenary Library in Chennai. Praising India's growth in the global market, Clinton claimed that US can bet on India's future.

"We are betting on India's future. That opening of India's markets to world will produce a more prosperous India and South Asia," stated Clinton while delivering her speech to the students and other VIPs including actors Kamal Haasan and Gauthami.

"We are betting that India's vibrant pluralistic society will inspire others to follow a similar path of tolerance. We are making this bet not out of blind faith but because we have watched your progress with great admiration," added Clinton.

The US secretary of the state also lauded the election commission of India by Stating, "India's Election Commission is viewed as a global standard for running democracy."

Expressing her views on the relationship between the two nations, Clinton said, "Relationship between India and US will be a defining relationship of the 21st Century."

Clinton is expected to meet Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa later on the same day.
