Isolated ex-CVC PJ Thomas withdraws plea in Delhi HC

PJ Thomas
New Delhi, Jul 19: The former Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) PJ Thomas on Tuesday, Jul 19 withdrew his plea in the Delhi High Court over early disposal of his petition to the President against his removal.

Earlier, Thomas had moved the Delhi High Court requesting stay on the appointment of new CVC.

In his writ petition, Thomas urged the court to direct on the appeal filed by him on Mar 16 and urged President Pratibha Patil to wait for the decision before the new CVC is appointed.

However, the chair of the CVC has been occupied by former Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar. He was sworn in as the new CVC on Jul 14. The post was vacant since the Supreme Court quashed PJ Thomas' appointment.

The government earlier had been confronted with tremendous pressure when the Supreme Court slammed the CVC (Thomas') appointment and ruled that the government had made major lapses in his selection and overlooked his involvement in the Palmolein scam.
