New Delhi, Jul 17: After getting slammed by the Supreme Court for "shoddy" probe, the Delhi police ultimately made a serious effort by arresting Sanjiv Saxena, an accused who bribed BJP MPs and MLAs. Saxena is also a close aide of former Samajwadi party leader Amar Singh.

Three years after the 2008 cash-for-votes scam, this is the first arrest made by the Delhi cops. Supreme Court also directed the Delhi police to file a fresh status report on probe within two weeks.

Vote cash scam is an alleged scandal in which the UPA, led by Manmohan Singh openly bribed Indian MPs to the tune of multi-millions to survive its very first confidence vote on 22 July 2008 in the Lok Sabha after the Communist Party of India (Marxist) led Left Front withdrew support from the government over India approaching the IAEA for Indo-US nuclear deal.

But, later Tehelka, India's news magazine, through its sting operation revealed the fact that it was the BJP that had willfully set out to entrap either the Congress or the SP into buying three BJP MPs so it could pull off a successful sting operation and discredit the government.
