Paravoor scandal: One more held, another commits suicide

Kochi, Jul 16: One more person has been arrested by the Crime Branch (CB) in the Paravoor sex scandal on Jul 15 (Friday).

The arrested is 51-year-old Moideen who hails from Vazhakkulam, Perumbavoor. Based on the evidences given by Vallam Omana, an agent, the former was arrested from a rented house.

Samson, another agent was produced in the court. He was arrested by the police on Jul 14.

Meanwhile, a doctor who was one of the accused in the sex scandal committed suicide in Saudi Arabia.

53-year-old Vipin Zacharia, a doctor from Erattupetta had been absconding since long, after an agent Lillie pointed fingers on him and he was in the wanted list of the police.

The doctor along with two other friends harassed the girl at a flat in Kochi and Mysore in 2010. The Ernakulam Crime Branch which is looking into the case tried to contact him through his friends and relatives. The doctor reportedly went missing for a week, his body was later found by the coast guard and lay in a mortuary because it could not be recognised,

At least 100 people have been identified in the case and 52 have been taken into police custody so far.

Those arrested include a motor vehicle inspector, retired Naval officer, a PWD contractor and ex-employee from Tamil Nadu electricity Board.

The 14-year-old victim's father has also been arrested by the police.

The minor girl who hails from Paravoor, Ernakulum district confided to a relative about her miserable plight that she was sexually abused by 100 men, including her father.

According to the police sources, the victim's father used to do odd roles in Malayalam films, who first exploited his own daughter and then threw her to wolves.
