DMK functionary arrested on land grabbing charges

Coimbatore, Jul 16: A DMK area secretary and a woman have been arrested in a case of alleged land grabbing, police said.

Siva alias ''meenkadai'' Siva, the Singanallur area DMK secretary and D Sasikala were arrested by members of the Anti-Land Grabbing cell for allegedly threatening the property owner to hand over her house, located in the prime Ondipudur area in the city, police said.

The house, where complainant S Sasikala was living with her son, belonged to her father-in law and on her husband's death, he (Ramasamy) had given it to his grandson, police said.

However D Sasikala, the sister-in-law of the complaiant, wanted to acquire the lucrative property valued at about Rs one crore, sought the help of four persons including Siva, police said.

Siva had approached S Sasikala, and had occupied a portion of the house, following which the gang allegedly threatened her to hand over the house to them, according to the complaint lodged on July six, police said. Search was on for the other three accused who are absconding, they added.
