What did the UPA's Cabinet reshuffle teach DMK?

After Dayanidhi Maran resigned as Union Textile Minister, Pranab Mukherjee in his recent visit to Chennai met DMK supremo Karunanidhi asking for a replacement name for this post. But the DMK did not give the fresh list for the vacant post.
Following the reshuffle on Tuesday, the additional charge of Textile Ministry was bestowed on Anand Sharma who handles the Commerce Ministry as well. With the UPA in need of the DMK more than ever before due to the mere number advantage of 18 MP's in the DMK camp, the Prime Minister is believed to have kept aside two Cabinet berths for the party.
Currently there are four DMK Ministers of State namely S S Palanimanickam, D Napolean, S Jagatrakshakan and S. Gandhiselvan. An earlier effort to push T.R. Baalu into the Cabinet was ineffective with the Prime Minister not showing interest in the move.
With talks on the Congress-DMK alliance still hotting up, certain members from the Congress considers that it would be better if the DMK quits on its own. They also added that in such a situation, the DMK would be able to get “enough support to survive, since none of the political outfits want a mid-term poll."
There are also much expectations from the DMK's proposed meet in Coimbatore on Jul 23 where the party will review its stand on continuing their alliance and decide on the persons who will take on the Cabinet positions.
