SC pulls up Delhi Police for brutality of Ramdev supporters
The apex court has also asked the police to present the footage of the police crackdown on Jun 4. Speaking on behalf of Baba Ramdev, his counsel Ram Jethmalani asked the court to issue a notice to Home Minister P Chidambaram. The court will hear the plea in the case' next hearing on Jul 25.
The Supreme Court also slammed the police for not registering an FIR against the police officials in spite of complaints by Baba Ramdev's supporters. The Delhi Police had then justified the blatant brutality citing that Baba Ramdev was give permission to conduct a Yog Shivir and not for any other purpose.
This take on the issue by the Supreme Court will cause further embarrassment to the UPA who resorted to some arm-twisting methods to curb Baba Ramdev's increasing clout in the capital.
