Pranab to meet Karuna to sooth his mangled nerves?

New Delhi, Jul 8 : Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is all set to travel to Chennai tomorrow, reveal sources. He is expected to meet DMK Chief M Karunanidhi there. This meeting assumes prominence especially in the aftermath of the resignation of Union Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran.

Maran submitted his resignation on Thursday after getting caught in the 2G spectrum net after the CBI gathered evidence establishing his involvement in the Aircel-Maxis deal.

The proposed meeting also gains importance when the UPA is planning a cabinet reshuffle and the cabinet berth that has been rendered vacant after the exit of Maran is yet to be filled. Discussions in this regard is expected as well. The Congress still maintains that it will continue its alliance with the DMK. The DMK is however going through a rough patch after two of the popular faces of the party, A Raja and Kanimozhi is presently in Tihar jail for their role in the 2G spectrum scam.

With the DMK losing all its bargaining power in the Centre, it being able to put a DMK face in the Centre remains to be seen.
