Rahul Gandhi requests partymen not to join padyatra
Digvijay Singh said,"He (Rahul) has requested not to join him on the padyatra." "Rahul's padyatra is an attempt to know the real problems being faced by the farmers affected due to land acquisition. As the Centre will be amending land acquisitionAct, he will be giving suggestions on certain points about that," he added.
The party was shocked to see Rahul reaching Bhatta Parasul on Tuesday morning, Jul 5 to commence his march that will cover villages in western Uttar Pradesh where farmers are agitated against land acquisition.
After BSP government denied Congress permission to hold a farmers' rally, the Gandhi scion's decision to move alone in the march outsmarted the state administration. Though BJP termed Rahul's padyatra as a "political drama", the Congress thrashed Mayawati by commenting that she was flustered by the padyatra. "Instead of lecturing Congress on land acquisition, BJP should tell the people why it has allowed Karnataka CM to work like land mafia," AICC spokesman Manish Tewari said.
Rahul who led a delegation of farmers to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, complained about the alleged police atrocities and incidents of rape and molestation, resulting in central compensation for the victims in Bhatta-Parsaul.
