Villagers clashes with the cops over Holy Quran desecration

Lucknow, Jul 6: On wednesday, Jul 6 there have been heavy clashes between the police and a group of Muslim villagers at Arahlatnagar Bagah village on the outskirts of Moradabad city.

According to sources, a team of cops were on the course of an investigation into a sexual harassment case in the village. But, while carrying out the raids, the police barged into a house believing that the accused was there and threw the Holy Quran onto the floor from the hands of a young girl inside the house.

Considering the act as religion's humiliation, the locals got furious and clashed with the cops. "When the police retaliated, the family members of the accused spread false reports that a cop had snatched the Quran from a girl in the house and flung it. As the canard spread, people took to the streets, attacking the cops and burning government property," an official said.

Infact, the entire clash took a very serious turn where the police van was burnt. DIG Moradabad Ashok Kumar was injured in the clashes and rushed to the Emergency ward in Moradabad district hospital. He has suffered a head injury due to the heavy stone pelting.
