Man attempts suicide after stabbing girlfriend

Mumbai, Jul 6: A 31-year-old-man after stabbing his girlfriend in a brutal way, tried to commit suicide at a guesthouse in Dahisar (East) on Tuesday, Jul 5. The couple was immediately rushed to Nair hospital and are said to be in a stable condition now.

The Dahisar police have booked Vaman Sawant, an electrician residing in Virar. According to the police sources, Vaman Sawant met Sapna Pillai, who is a resident of Mira Road and works in Silent Bar in Borivli. A few months back, during Sawant's visit to the bar, they met and got into an affair.

Sawant is married and stays with his family. The couple used to meet up often in a nearby guesthouse. Recently, when Sawant sensed that his girlfriend Sapna was having a relation with some other man, he asked her to quit her job and gave her Rs 3 lakh to buy a house and marry him.

Sunil Deshmukh, assistant commissioner of police said, “On Tuesday, at 1.00 pm, the couple met at Sanmaan guesthouse, to discuss their marriage, when an argument broke out between them, as Pillai refused to quit her job."

Suspecting something fishy, a waiter of the guesthouse, who heard some noises from their room around 2.45 pm went inside and found Sapna on the bed, injured, while Sawant was in the bathroom with injuries on his abdomen.

The guesthouse authorities rushed the couple to the hospital. “The woman was injured on her abdomen, hands and elbows when she tried to stop Sawant from attacking her," added Deshmukh. Sawant would be arrested soon after he gets discharged.
