Land acquisition: SC imposes Rs 10 lakh on Greater Noida

Supreme Court
New Delhi, Jul 5: The Supreme Court on Jul 6 (today) upheld the Allahabad High Court's order questioning land acquisition and imposed a fine of 10 lakh on the Greater Noida Authority.

The SC earlier blamed the state for being a land grabber and accused it of stripping farmers of their of livelihood for years together.

Lands were taken under the pretext of public interest and then were given to build luxurious houses to builders, said Justice AK Ganguly and GS Singhvi, Apex Court.

The comment came after many petitions were filed by builders challenging the Allahabad High Court verdict that put down the take over of land in three villages of Surajpur, Gulistanpur and Shahberi in UP's Greater Noida.

Singhvi had said that the farmers were getting affected because of this and hence ended up either engaging themselves in criminal offences or were either living in slum.
