Is Rahul Gandhi's padyatra in UP a political drama?
Taking another dig at the Gandhi scion, the BJP has called the Congress General Secretary's 'padyatra' in Uttar Pradesh a political drama. Former BJP President Rajnath Singh was quoted as saying, "It (Rahul Gandhi's Padyatra) is nothing more than a political drama and a political stunt."
Insisting that the the condition of farmers will not improve unless the Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill is passed, the senior BJP leader said, "As far as the Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill is concerned, the responsibility to have it passed is on the UPA government led by Congress, and he (Rahul Gandhi) is the general secretary of Congress."
Singh added, "Since 2007 the Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill has been pending and the government is sitting on the bill. If the government is actually a well wisher of farmers, they should bring this bill to the parliament as soon as possible."
Referring to Rahul Gandhi's march across Bhatta-Parsaul villages of Uttar Pradesh, the BJP leader said, "He is the general secretary of a big political party, the Congress party; he should show some responsibility though his behaviour."
It can be recalled that in May 2011, the Uttar Pradesh village had seen fierce protests by farmers against inadequate compensation for land.
