Indian Railways chugs into Facebook

New Delhi, Jul 1: The common man's version of air travel the Railways is going through some changes. After the Indian Railways continue to serve all classes of people to most parts of India, the Indian Railways is all set to go the social networking way. They have launched a

for this very purpose. The page will contain information on trains, latest position as well as arrivals and departures.

The Northern Railway General Manager S K Budhalakoti commented on this new venture, “Through Facebook we are informing the general public about the latest development activities and facilities being provided in the railway station and responding to queries about Railways. We also inform the passengers regarding the running position of the trains and their platform numbers at three major stations - New Delhi, Old Delhi and Nizamuddin."

The Facebook page was launched by the Delhi division in April and already has a large number of followers. Budhalakoti also added the functioning of a centralised SMS-based complaint monitoring system to tackle the timely receipt of complaints. This system was extremely effective which was evident in the drastic reduction in the number of complaints.
