Anna Hazare's fan base swells by lakhs; are you one yet?

New Delhi, Jul 1: With Anna Hazare on a Lokpal Bill sensitisation drive among various political parties, this piece of news will come as a welcome boost to his efforts. The Gandhian whose humble efforts to rid the system off corruption has gone from strength to strength and has received an overwhelming response of 76 lakh people across the country.

Anna Hazare led India Against Corruption (IAC) had requested the public to give a missed call to all those who support his cause on the number 022-61550789 and to register their support. This was when Hazare was on his huger strike at the Jantar Mantar on Apr 5. According to Kunal Dixit of Netcore Solutions Private Limited, who is responsible for handling the scheme for IAC commented, “By June 28, we got over one crore missed calls of which 76.83 lakh were unique missed calls, all different numbers and no repetition."

Expressing hope and happiness over this unbridled support to this national cause, popular civil society member and RTI activist, Arvind Kejriwal said, “This data clearly proves that Lokpal movement is not limited to just a few thousand people. The whole country is behind us."

A call analysis revealed that most missed calls came from Tamil Nadu (including Puducherry) region with 16.41 lakh. The second position went to Maharashtra-Goa region (including Mumbai) with 15.15 lakh. The calls were spread across and came from places like Daman & Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
