Rpt on Maoist kidnap surface; victim claims "false news"

Thursday morning saw headlines flashed across media that Maoists have kidnapped a US based research fellow, Juhi Tyagi from Jamui district in Bihar. Jamui is popularly considered a stronghold of the Communist Party of India-Maoist.
Reports had revealed that Tyagi was in Bihar in the capacity of a University researcher studying the Maoist problem in India and from the Stony Brook University in New York. The report also falsely claimed that Tyagi had been missing since the last two days. Her local contact, Pradeep Das was also reported to be missing.
The news further quoted a claim from Ram Narain Singh, Superintendent of Police at Jamui when he said, “Maoists abducted them from Nawada area under Kowakol police station and informed the family members of Das about it."
Tyagi along with her partner is believed to have been stationed in Jamui since June 15. She is believed to have visited the strife-prone area earlier as well.
