J Dey's killers caught on CCTV camera
The video reveals that four of the bike-borne assailants were continuously tracking J Dey before shooting him. But this footage might not have much evidentiary value in the court of law, as the faces of the accused are not visible due to rain.
The Brazen killing of the Mid DAY senior reporter Jyotirmoy Dey that had been haunting the Mumbai Police since Jun 11, was finally cracked when the underworld, especially Chhota Rajan's connection in J Dey murder case was confirmed.
The video reveals how underworld don Chhota Rajan's sharpshooters tailed Dey before gunning him down. Four of six assailants are seen on two bikes following J Dey at a traffic junction near the shooting spot. A CCTV camera that was installed at a nearby building captured the images.
"This was very professionally done, they had a Qualis ready as well to escape in case things go wrong," said Himanshu Roy, Joint CP (Crime), Mumbai.
Mumbai police had scrutinised this footage on the day of the murder itself. But, it didn't appear to be of much help because the visuals were hazy as it was raining that day. Neither the faces of the assailants nor their clothes were visible. But investigators were able to get a fair idea of these bike-borne assailants, thanks to help of the five eyewitnesses, and were able to eventually nab them.
But, the trial court may reject it altogether as the faces of the accused are not visible.
