US: Prabhu Dayal, Consul General calls for removal of maid
"I formally request that removal proceedings be commenced against Santosh Bharadwaj," said Dayal's lawyer, Ravi Batra in a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security , Janet Napolitano and Attorney General of the United States, Eric M Holder.
"As Ms Bhardwaj voluntarily abandoned the employ of the Consul General and the Consulate on January 28, 2010 she is within our borders in violation of her non-immigrant status and conditions of entry into the US", said the letter.
The Indian Consul General has been accused by his maid Santosh Bhardwaj for forced labour. Rubbishing all allegations against him, Dayal called it 'complete nonsense' and 'malicious lies'.
According to him, his maid had vanished in Jan 2010 and suddenly came back accusing him of forced labour.
Indian Government has also supported Prabhu Dayal and called the charges levied against him as "motivated and baseless" and expressed concern over Indian diplomats becoming targets in US.
