Pregnant woman and daughter burnt to death for dowry

Motihari, Jun 26: A pregnant woman and her minor daughter were allegedly burnt to death by her husband and in-laws for dowry in Ahirolia village in Bihar's East Champaran district, police said today.

The deceased, identified as Sunita Devi (26) and her 18 month-old daughter were allegedly burnt by her husband and in-laws last night after her family failed to fulfil their dowry demands, Paharpur police station in-charge Satyendra Prasad Singh said.

The perpetrators of the crime dumped the body of the woman in a sugarcane field before fleeing from the village, he said, adding that the body was recovered today and sent for post-mortem.

The victim's father Bhikari Sah has lodged a named FIR against four persons, including his son in-law Sadhu Sah, charging them with the murder of his daughter for dowry, police said adding investigation was on.
