UDF promises transparent rule, fast-paced dev in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, June 24: Steps to ensure a transparent and corruption-free administration in Kerala and a fast-paced development mode without diluting the welfare of the less privileged sections were the main focus of Governor R S Gavai's policy address in the state Assembly today (Jun 24).

He said making big strides in a fast-track mode would be the moto of the UDF government headed by Oommen Chandy in the next five years.

Big infrastructure projects like Kochi Metro, Vizhinjam port and Kannur airport will be "taken out of cold storage", he said.

A health insurance scheme for people suffering from serious illnesses will be introduced, which will bring 3.5 million families in the state under its ambit.

The Governor also made a scathing criticism of the previous LDF government saying "corruption and inefficiency" were its hallmark.

While Gavai chose to read out only the introductory and concluding portions of the address, the opposition members greeted the proceedings by displaying papers with the demand "remove tainted ministers" written on them.
