Indo-Pak talks on Mumbai terror attacks to begin on Jun 23

New Delhi, Jun 23: It is expected that India might seek a "satisfactory closure" to the Mumbai terror attacks case when India and Pakistan begin the two-day Foreign Secretaries level talks in Islamabad on Thursday, Jun 23.

Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and her Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir would discuss the slow progress in the 26/11 trial and the Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) for Jammu and Kashmir.

Foreign Minister SM Krishna said that India was keeping expectations low. He had already suggested that all issues that bug both the countries would be discussed when Nirupama Rao visits Islamabad. "So let's not speculate or let not the expectations be pitched too high because this is one relationship that we have been trying to cultivate in the last few months", he said.

After a blow to the relations between the two countries post-Mumbai terror attacks, Mr Krishna said that India was "making a determined bid to work out a cordial relationship" although "terrorism is going to be one of the issues that is going to be naturally discussed with Pakistan."

The other issues that would be included in the talks are Peace and Security, including CBMs, Jammu & Kashmir, and Promotion of Friendly Exchanges.

As terrorism has become one of the horrifying threats to the world, Nirupama Rao told that Pakistan too confessed that terrorism is seriously affecting their nation and also many Pakistanis have fallen victim to terrorism.

When enquired about her upcoming talks with her Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir, Rao said the idea was to reduce trust deficit and build more confidence in the Indo-Pak relations.
