Ban ki Moon calls on India, Pak to resolve Kashmir issue

Ban Ki Moon
United Nations, June 23: Newly re-elected Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban ki Moon has asked the leaders of India and Pakistan to peacefully resolve the Kashmir issue through dialogue. He also indicated his willingness to help the troubled neighbours in ironing out the differences over the matter.

Speaking in a press conference on Jun 22, the UN Secretary General said, "I will have opportunities in the future as in the past... I will discuss the matter with leaders of both India and Pakistan, how we can help or how this issue could resolved peacefully through dialogue."

In response to a question from the PTI, the UN chief said, "I am aware of the positions of both India and Pakistan, and India and Pakistan leaders. I understand there is going to be one (meeting) soon... All these issues should be resolved peacefully through dialogue between the two governments."

Giving his views on the expansion of the United Nations Security Council, Moon said, "It has been too long overdue."

It can be recollected that India is vying for a permanent place in the multi-nation security council. At the moment, US, China, Britain, Russia and France are the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
