Our army ready to take responsibility from US: Afghan

Kabul, Jun 22: The Afghanistan Defence Ministry on Wednesday, Jun 22 said that its force trained by NATO military is ready to secure key the parts of the country and take responsibility for fighting Taliban insurgents.

Afghanistan government officials told this amidst popular demand for departure of American-led foreign forces from the country. US President Barack Obama is expected to announce plans to pull out 10,000 American troops from Afghan soil.

Defense Ministry spokesman Gen. Mohammad Zahir Azimi said that Afghan military force is prepared to replace the foreign forces despite of suicide attacks and bomb attacks.

"There will be some battles, there will be suicide attacks and bomb attacks. But we in the Afghan forces are prepared to replace the foreign forces and I'm confident the army has enough capacity and ability," he said.

Obama administration, which plans to withdraw 5,000 troops by 2012, will hand over responsibility for securing five provincial capitals and two provinces to Afghan army by July 20.
