UP: Mayawati defends rape cases

In a press conference, Mayawati, Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh said that she condemned all the cases of rape in the state and promised action against all accused.
"Criminals won't be shielded. We will bring them to book," she said.
She further accepted the negligence and lackadaisical attitude of police against women and minors in Uttar Pradesh.
Slamming the opposition parties, Mayawati said that the issue was being politicised by opposition parties and further added that her government was committed to the rule of law.
A total of eight cases have been reported from the state till now with the recent report of 17-year-old daughter of CRPF jawan raped. The girl later committed suicide.
