FBI launches manhunt to locate fugitive Indian doctor

Chicago, Jun 20: The FBI has set up a nationwide manhunt and alarmed Interpol to locate one of its most-wanted fugitives, Indian-origin doctor Gautam Gupta. He is well-known for the ads promising weight loss and for allegedly defrauding US insurance companies of $25 million over the last decade.

According to the FBI complaint, Gupta had received almost $25 million over the last decade when he submitted claims to Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois and Illinois Medicaid for services that were not medically necessary or, in some cases, were never performed, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Medicaid is the United States health program for eligible individuals and families with low incomes and resources. It is a means tested program that is jointly funded by the states and federal government, and is managed by the states, according to Wikipedia sites.

The complaints revealed that the FBI agents and Illinois State Police used interviews with current and former employees and patients of 57-year-old Gupta to build the case against him.
