UP govt on face-saving mission; denies rapes in state

Ferozabad, Jun 20: In yet another shameful incident of rape coming out of Mayawati's Uttar Pradesh, a minor girl was raped by two men in UP. This makes it the fifth such case emerging out of the state. Family members claim that the girl was kidnapped from her home late night on Sunday and later raped.

But the Mayawati government seem to be in denial with the police officials stating in a press conference that only one rape case has been confirmed with all the rest of the cases currently under investigation. In a last-ditch effort to save the government's face, the officials reiterated that there was a concerted effort to blemish the state's image.

An FIR has been registered against three people namely Suman, Sunil and Raveesh at the Nidholikala Police station under Section 302 and 376 for rape and murder.

A medical examination is currently underway on the girl. Meanwhile, the station officer at the police station has been transferred for failing to take timely action in the case.

With incidents of rape and blatant crime emerging out of UP, the issue has garnered country wide attention and has turned the spotlight on the lawlessness and anarchy in the state.

The fourth case to have emerged in a gap of 48 hours, the case is most likely to cause Mayawati some sleepless nights with the state emerging as the new Rape Capital of India, a position that was with Delhi till now.

With the series of such violent incidents starting off with a 14-year-old girl who was found dead in the Lakhimpur Kheri village, another 14-year-old was blinded for resisting rape and a 33-year woman burnt alive after being raped. The shameful statistic is only increasing every day.
