Lucknow, Jun 16: A delegation of Congress today (June 16) met Uttar pradesh Governor B L Joshi and demanded a CBI probe into the death of a five-year-old girl, whose body was recovered without a kidney on June 11, and alleged killing of the accused in the case by policemen in Barabanki district.

The party delegation led by Congress state president Rita Bahuguna Joshi and Pramod Tewari met the Governor and alleged that Gaya Prasad Maurya, who was picked up by the police, who termed him as ''tantrik'' (exorcist) for killing the girl, was beated to death by the policemen.

Tiwari said that policemen posted in Ghunter police station severely beat up Gaya Prasad branding him as exorcist and framed the girl's uncle in the case. Tiwari alleged that an impartial inquiry into the case was not possible at the local level.

Since the kidney of the girl was also missing, there is apprehension among the locals about involvement of some gang dealing in smuggling of human organs, he said and pressed for the CBI probe.

The police on June 14 had claimed that investigation into the death of Savita has revealed that her kidney was taken out and eaten by the exorcist Gaya Prasad.

Prasad who was arrested with the girl's uncle Anil Maurya, died in the police custody leading to suspension of four policemen, including station officer.
